- Annual Curb and Sidewalk Program
Annual Curb and Sidewalk Program
Project Information
The City’s Curb and Sidewalk Repair Program is designed to address damaged, deteriorating, or unsafe sections of concrete throughout our neighborhoods. As part of this ongoing initiative, city crews and contractors identify and remove areas affected by cracking, settling, or other surface issues. These sections are then replaced with new concrete that meets current safety and accessibility standards. This program helps maintain safe pedestrian pathways, improves neighborhood aesthetics, and supports long-term infrastructure health. The City is divided into four sections, with one section evaluated each year on a rotating basis. In addition, main roads and school routes are inspected annually to ensure safety and accessibility.

FAQS
Q: Why is the City removing and replacing sidewalk or curb near my property?
A: The City inspects sidewalks and curbs to identify areas that are cracked, uneven, or otherwise pose a safety hazard. If your area has been selected, it’s part of our effort to improve pedestrian safety and maintain infrastructure.
Q: Do property owners have to pay for the repairs?
A: No
Q: When will the work take place on my street?
A: The city has worked into the contract with the contractor for 3 mobilizations. The first on being in the spring to repair all utility digs from the winter and any work that need to be complete for staff to complete further work to be done. The second one will happen late July early August and focuses on current years planned section. And the third being late fall to repair any projects before winter arrives.
Q: How long will the construction take?
A: Most sidewalk or curb replacements take 5-7 days, depending on the scope of work and weather conditions.
Q: Will I have access to my driveway during construction?
A: Access may be temporarily restricted while work is underway. If driveway access will be impacted, residents will receive advance notice via a hand-delivered letter detailing the expected duration. In cases where an asphalt driveway is affected during curb or sidewalk repairs, restoration will take place after the concrete has properly cured—typically within 3 to 5 days, depending on weather conditions.
Q: Who can I contact with questions or concerns?
A: For questions or project updates, please contact the City’s Public Works Department at 847-963-0500 ext. 7036 or valentinob@cityrm.org.
Q: How can I request sidewalk or curb repair in front of my home?
A: You can call public works and put in a work order request. Staff will evaluate the condition of your curb or sidewalk and evaluate when the work can be performed if needed.
Q: Will I still receive my mail during construction?
A: Yes
Q: Will my refuse and recycling still be collected?
A: Yes, if work is being done where you place your carts please place them in a different location along the street until work is completed.
Q: I'm planning on replacing my driveway, will the city replace the sidewalk that goes through my driveway?
A: Yes, as long as the city's contractor can complete their work before your contractor begins replacing your driveway. The area must also meet the city's criteria for replacement, which include trip hazards greater than 1/2 inch, concrete spalling over 50%, or water retainage (ponding or pooling).
