The Public Works Department is hosting its second annual pumpkin compost collection as a green initiative for the residents of Rollling Meadows. Residents are encouraged to bring their pumpkins to Public Works in order to reduce waste sent to Illinois landfills and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
Once the pumpkins are collected, they will be transported to a green composting collection site in order to be processed into organic fertilizer for farming and landscaping across the State. Pumpkins will only be accepted from Rolling Meadows and SWANCC member community residents. Flood Brothers Disposal will provide a dumpster for the pumpkin collection event and will transport the waste to Thelen Materials in Antioch to be properly composted.
