The Rolling Meadows Environmental Committee is a volunteer based group that serves as a subcommittee of Urban Affairs It is closely affiliated with the Public Works Department.
The mission of the Environment Committee is to provide awareness, outreach and education for the public, The group meets the first Tuesday of the month at City Hall.
Volunteer opportunities area available through out the year. Annual Stream Bank clean up and Arbor Day activities occur in April. Restoration and installation of prairie plants have ongoing opportunities. Information tables and forums are planned through out the year. The Annual Duck Race, a collaborative effort of the Rolling Meadows Park District, and the local Rotary Club provides our only fundraising efforts each summer.
Adoption of Programs and Initiatives include:
Solid Waste: To maximize source reduction, establish programs to rid the solid waste stream of toxics and implement all feasible recycling alternatives.
Water Quality: To protect and improve surface-water quality. Improve the stability, health and integrity of streams and surface waters.
Air Quality: To strive to protect and improve air quality by considering all reasonable alternatives that reduce or eliminate emissions.
Transportation: To provide safe and convenient transportation systems which further the efficient use of clean, renewable energy.
Land Use: to provide ethical and self-sustaining land use planning to ensure a productive and balanced economy, environment and society.
Energy: Encourage energy conservation and use of sustainable, clean and safe energy sources and reduce the use of non-renewable energy sources.
