TTY / TDD Access

Rolling Meadows provides equal access to citizens using TTY-TDD devices for communications. Whether dialing 9-1-1 or the City TDD number (847) 506-0490  a person using a TTY-TDD can communicate their needs to us.

TTY-TDD is a text message system that is used by speech and/or hearing impaired individuals to communicate via phone lines with other TTY-TDD users. Each end of a TTY-TDD call must have a TTY-TDD device.

Call 911 and we will communicate directly with you using TTY-TDD. We have several pre-set messages to assist you. As soon as we hear the Baudot tones, we will send a TTY message.

Some of the messages we have programmed are:

TDD - Telecommunications Device for the Deaf

GA==When you talk with another person by TTY, you type while the other person reads. When you want the other person to respond, type GA for "Go Ahead."

GA or SK==To say goodbye, type GA or SK. This gives the other person a chance to say any last words before ending the conversation.

SKSK==Type SKSK to end the conversation.

Q==Some people prefer to type Q instead of a question mark because it saves time and is easier to type.
