Position Title:  Police Officer

Salary:  $57,120 – $82,000

Position Description:  The Rolling Meadows Police Department is Internationally Accredited, and the recipient of the 2002 International Community Policing Award and the 2005 Illinois Chiefs’ of Police Community Policing Award. The Department works as a team to provide service and protection to the residents of the city. The Department is composed of four units: Patrol, Investigations, Staff Services, and Support Services, which consist of 54 sworn officers with 43 civilian support personnel.

The Department offers career paths and specialty positions in a variety of disciplines, including: Arson Investigation; Community Involvement; Criminal Investigations/Youth; Defensive Tactics Instructor; Evidence Technician; Field Training Officer; Firearms Range Instructor; Gang Specialist; Motorcycle Officer; Police Cyclist; Police Neighborhood Resource Center Officer; Public Education Specialist; School Resource Officer; Traffic Accident Investigations; and Truck Enforcement Officer.

Requirements:

  • Candidates must be 20 years of age at the time of the test process. In addition, candidates must be between 21 – 35 years of age by date of appointment.

  • U.S. citizen.

  • Valid Drivers License.

  • 48 college credit hours. In lieu of the education requirement, a person may apply if they possess a high school diploma and either full-time law enforcement related or active military experience.

  • Vision correctable to 20/40 and free of color blindness.

  • Ability to pass all selection and training requirements.

  • No tobacco uses while on duty.

Qualifications:  Under the direction of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners (BoFPC), the police department conducts the orientation, physical agility, and written test phases of the recruit testing process. Final selection remains with the BoFPC, which conducts oral interviews with candidates to establish an eligibility list. Conditional offers of employment are subject to an extensive background investigation (including criminal history and financial), medical, polygraph, and psychological examinations.

  2. at the Rolling Meadows Police Service Desk beginning October 16th, 2007.

  3. on-line by clicking here starting October 16, 2007.

  4. at the optional orientation session to be held on November 9th, 2007, at 7:00 PM, Harper College Room E-106. 1200 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine, Illinois.
    Note: Doors close at 7:00 PM and no one will be allowed to enter after that time.

Completed and signed applications will be received ONLY in person on November 17th, 2007, between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at Harper College in Palatine, IL; that is when and where applicants will take the physical agility test. Those who pass will be allowed to take the written test, which will begin at 11:30 a.m.
