PART-TIME TELECOMMUNICATIONS OPERATOR (DISPATCHER)

The Rolling Meadows Police Department, IL is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Part-Time Telecommunications Operator (Dispatcher).  Responsibilities include: dispatching all requests for Police, Fire, Medical and ESDA services for the City from 911 telephone system; coordinate responses by emergency services personnel; responsible for dissemination, data entry and file maintenance of all calls for service (emergency, non-emergency, traffic and service-related activities); performs visual security monitoring of Department’s jail facilities and secured building entrances; and other work that may be assigned pertinent to this job classification.

Part-time Telecommunicators receive the same training a full-time Telecommunicator receives, and functions as a full-time Telecommunicator.  Telecommunicators undergo 12-16 weeks of in-house and outside vendor training.

This position will be working approximately 30 hours a week. The 9-1-1 Center is a 24 hour/7-day a week/365 days a year operation. Part-time Telecommunicators can expect to work flexible hours during any of three shifts or portions thereof:

Day Shift                 - 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (0700-1500)
Afternoon Shift        - 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. (1500-2300)
Midnight Shift           - 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. (2300-0700)

Full-time Telecommunicators work a permanent (annually selected) shift 5 days on, 2 days off, 5 days on, 3 days off work schedule.

Part-time Telecommunicators work various hours and have a minimum of 30 days notice, except for emergency callout.

The 911 Center uses the following equipment:

• Plant Electronics Vesta Pallas EX  telephone system with touch screen

• Motorola Centracom Gold Elite Touch Screen Radio System controller

• Motorola 800 MHz conventional radio system

• New World Systems Aegis Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Law Enforcement Records Management System (LERMS), Mobile Data Computers (MDC), Field Reporting, and related enterprise software

• National Academy of Emergency Dispatch / Priority Dispatch EMD protocol system

• ADT Keltron DMP-701/703 alarm monitor

• Davis Systems Vantage Pro2 Weather Station

• Four Watson ergonomic modular sit / stand dispatch work stations

• Concept Seating and DoMore/Lux  intensive use 24/7 chairs

• ViewSonic VPW425 42-inch plasma monitors

• Illinois EMnet System

• City of Rolling Meadows Microsoft Windows 2000 network and Microsoft Office Suite 2003 software.
   

Minimum qualifications:

• At least 18 years of age

• High School diploma or equivalent

• Valid Illinois drivers’ license

• Ability to successfully complete the City’s screening process, including CritiCall pre-employment testing, interview(s), in-depth background investigation, criminal history check, credit check, polygraph, medical and psychological examination.

Ideal candidates will possess the following certifications:

• National Academy of Emergency Medical Dispatch (NAED)

• Law Enforcement Agencies Data System (LEADS) and/or National Crime Information Center (NCIC)

• Working knowledge of New World Systems Aegis Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD), Law Enforcement Records Management System (LERMS) and related systems.

The salary range for this position is $21.00 - $29.95/hour, depending upon qualifications.  (07/01/2008)
