The traditional Crime Prevention and Community Relations functions have been incorporated into the Community Involvement Unit. This Unit is responsible for assisting in building strategies for community relationships and enhancing the quality of life of our constituency. By establishing links with the community, the Rolling Meadows Police Department can learn of issues and respond to them before they become problems.

Our Community Involvement Officers (CIO's) provide added value to traditional services such as Crime Prevention. Certified in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) officers provide surveys of residential, multi-dwelling residences, or businesses. We believe that proper design and effective use of a building environment can lead to a reduction in the incident and fear of crime, decrease the potential for crime, and to an increase in the quality of life.

Working Together

Chief's Advisory Council
An advisory panel of concerned residents and businesses to bring the needs of the community to the direct attention of the Chief's office. Their first project was to survey a representative portion of the Rolling Meadows service population seeking input on the concerns of the community and to evaluate both our law enforcement services and police officers. Another tool they have used is the Town Hall Meeting, during which residents may call-in, mail-in, and stop-in to express community concerns.

The Department invites community input several times a year with Neighborhood, A.C.E. and Apartment Management meetings. By banding together we are able to identify needs and problems of the community before they reach a critical point.

Proactive Approach

The Department received monies from the Cook County, IL Judicial Advisory Council B.A.D.G.E. grant. These funds are used to provide youth programs as alternatives to gang and other criminal activity. Field trips are sponsored through the Police Neighborhood Resource Center, a youth soccer league formed, and additional personnel are assigned to the targeted areas of the community.

Investing In Our Community

Members of the Rolling Meadows Police Department initiate and support a variety of charitable campaigns. Members make a significant contribution to the community through their commitments to events like the Law Enforcement Torch Run, Clearbrook Center Olympics, Terry Moran Days, and the Children's Holiday Program.
