HAZARDOUS MATERIALS

The Rolling Meadows Fire Department responds to approximately 100 Hazardous Materials calls per year. Some of those calls are for carbon monoxide, natural gas leaks, and gasoline spills. On-duty crews handle these types of incidents.

For incidents involving other chemicals and/or agents, the Department has ten Hazardous Materials level "A" Technicians that comprise the Hazardous Materials Team. Three members are Level "B" certified; two members have attended a Weapons of Mass Destruction live agent school. All of our Technicians have been through a Weapons of Mass Destruction/Bioterrorism awareness though the Federal Government.

Our team is part of the Hazardous Materials Mutual Response Team (HMMRT). This team is comprised of members from seven communities from the northwest suburbs. In turn, this group is also part of the Illinois (Statewide) Hazardous Materials Response Team.
